Pam St. Clement's ghostly EastEnders return

Pam St. Clement is set to play Pat Butcher in EastEnders once again.

The 73-year-old actress starred as earring-loving Pat in the BBC soap from 1986 to 2012, when her character was killed off. However, The Sun newspaper reports Pat is apparently going to be returning from the dead to feature in some of Barbara Windsor's upcoming scenes.

It was revealed earlier this year (16) that Barbara would be playing Peggy Mitchell once again in the soap as she battles against cancer.

According to the newspaper, Pat will appear to Peggy as a hallucination in one of her final scenes on the programme.

The scenes will be similar to the Children in Need special of EastEnders back in 2014, when Pat appeared to Ian Beale (played by Adam Woodyatt) as he tried to find out who killed his daughter Lucy.

Pat died on the show back in 2012 in a special hour-long episode after losing her own battle against pancreatic cancer.

Pam is just one of the former stars to return to the soap as Peggy bows out in emotional scenes to be aired this May (16). Ross Kemp will also be returning to his role as Peggy's son Grant Mitchell.

"Viewers can expect lots of surprises for Peggy’s final episodes," a source told The Sun. "They are not to be missed and will go down in EastEnders history."

It's very unlikely Pam's reappearance on the soap would be anything but fleeting, however. During a recent interview on This Morning, Pam admitted she's a fan of having acting freedom and not being contracted to one particular show.

"I’m not sure if I want to get tied down," she said. "It’s lovely to be dipping here, there and every where. I’m loving that freedom and feeling like me again. I’m missing everybody as ever at ‘Enders, but I still see them anyway."
