Olly Murs laughs off Diana Vickers romance rumours
Olly Murs has slammed rumours he is his dating fellow The X Factor alumni Diana Vickers.
Last week (end30Oct15) speculation was rife that Olly and Diana were enjoying a casual relationship, with suggestions they had been "fooling around" together. Now Olly has set the record straight, explaining they are close but there is nothing romantic about their feelings for each other.
"It's so ridiculous. It's a load of rubbish," he laughed to Britain's The Mirror newspaper.
"Me and Diana are friends, we've known each other a long time. We laughed about it. What? We're casually dating? No, we're not. We find it funny."
Olly competed on the show in 2009, the year after Diana took to the stage, and he has returned to host this year's (15) series alongside Caroline Flack. The presenting duo received scathing reviews of their turn on the Judges' Houses episode at the end of October (15), which was when those making it through to the live shows were revealed. Olly and Caroline were heavily criticised for seeming disorganised and talking over each other, but they clawed it back over the weekend (31Oct-01Nov15) when they managed to impress.
"Of course I was (nervous), you're hosting the biggest show on TV," he explained. "I've only been doing presenting, what, a couple of years? So to be jumping from the bottom to the top is quite a big one but I'm loving it.
"I haven't got the experience that other presenters of got in that field, ie the Ant and Decs of the world, the Dermots (O'Leary, previous The X Factor presenter). I'm not. For me, I'm just having a great time, enjoying it, get to be back."
Olly is still struggling to cope when hopefuls are sent home on the programme. Having competed himself, he knows what a crushing blow the news is and he gets incredibly anxious.
"I'm never nervous performing but when you're hosting, it's completely different," he explained. "I didn't even really know how difficult it actually was. There is so much going on."
Adding to Olly's nervousness is a certain topic he and judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are yet to discuss. In 2012 he asked Cheryl for her number via Twitter but she never replied, with Olly hoping she has forgotten about it.
"We have never had that conversation," he giggled. "For me, I'd never wanna bring that up! It's so embarrassing."
