Natalie Cassidy 'engaged'
EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy is rumoured to be engaged to her cameraman boyfriend.
The 32-year-old actress has played Sonia in the popular BBC soap since 1993, picking up two British Soap Awards along the way. She started dating boyfriend Marc Humphreys after splitting from her abusive ex-fiancé Adam Cottrell, who she has five-year-old daughter Eliza with, in 2013. And now Britain's The Sun newspaper claims Marc got down on one knee at the weekend (24Oct-25Oct15) a year after they first got together.
“Family and friends are thrilled for Natalie and have been buying gifts for them to celebrate," the source told the publication, while an EastEnders spokesperson added: "She is really happy."
The couple met on the set of the soap opera and are often spotted out together looking loved up. It seems little Eliza is a fan of her future stepdad too. Natalie went through a tough time with Adam, who was charged with two offences of assault and another two of criminal damage when he turned abusive. He was sentenced to 120 hours' community service in 2011.
Despite his violent outbursts, Natalie initially gave him a second chance before calling off their engagement for good. It's certainly not a move she regrets, as she previously explained why trying to make things work was so important to her.
"It was my decision. I'm really glad I gave it another chance," she said not long after their split. "When kids are involved you almost have to. I can always say to Eliza, 'Mummy tried, but it didn't work out.'"
Her daughter's wellbeing is always her number one priority and Natalie admitted at the beginning of the year (15) that she isn't keen for Eliza to be a child star like she was. Having been in the spotlight for so long, the actress doesn't know what it's like to not be stopped and recognised all the time.
“It’s not a bad thing, because I’m so used to it, but I’d like her to retain her anonymity," the star previously noted. "I’d like her to have that for her life, really. I don’t want her to have what I’ve had."
