Michelle Keegan has landed her first film role.

The 27-year-old actress - who is currently starring in BBC drama 'Ordinary Lies' - is set to star opposite former 'Shameless' actor Stephen Lord in 'Strangeways Here We Come', a comedy drama about a loan shark's downfall.

Stephen said: "We are thrilled at being able to present Michelle Keegan her first film role and she is embracing her character, Demi, fully, testing herself as an actress and showing no signs of being afraid of getting down and dirty with the rest of our great cast...Michelle is very excited about the film and the challenge."

Michelle, who played Tina McIntyre in ITV soap 'Coronation Street' for six years before her character was killed off in May last year, will be playing a "fragile and introverted character" in the upcoming film.

Stephen told the Manchester Evening News: "[Michelle's] character is prominent in the film and she has some intense and also funny moments and there is a real nice arc to her character's journey. Demi battles with many insecurities as a young girl on the estate and is quite an anxious, fragile and introverted character."

While Michelle may be engaged to Essex boy Mark Wright, she isn't leaving her northern roots behind with this film as it's set in Salford and was written and is to be directed by the city's very own Chris Green.

Stephen added: "I hope the making of the film in Salford will be uplifting and inspiring to people."
