Mary Berry 'a flop in the US'

British TV treasure Mary Berry reportedly faces the axe in the US after her festive ABC show failed to pull in viewers.

The Great British Bake Off favourite broadcast The Great Holiday Baking Show across the pond, but only three million people tuned in - ten million fewer than the GBBO final. Now sources at the American channel claim it's looking bleak for Mary in the States.

According to Britain's The Sun newspaper, one in six viewers tuned out of the show last week (end13Dec15).

“This show is sinking in front of our eyes, and that is not what ABC expected to happen. To lose one in six viewers in one week is a disaster," an insider sighed to the publication.

“Had the audience stuck at the four million mark, that wouldn’t have been so terrible. But the figures have just kept falling."

Mary, 80, was only set up with four episodes for ABC. Now it looks like there won't be any more to come in summer (16).

“Given these results, they aren’t likely to go for a summer series," the insider added. “It’s a shame, as everything Mary touches in the UK turns to gold.”

Despite all this negative feedback, a spokeswoman for the food writer says they are "very happy" with the show. And Mary still reigns supreme in Britain, keeping herself busy by sharing her recipes for a perfect Christmas. Speaking to Britain's The Mirror newspaper, she said sweet treats are especially important during the festive season.

"Christmas comes but once a year! Desserts are an essential part of Christmas eating and pleasure," she smiled.

"I always say that Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a traditional trifle, and I’ve included my favourite trifle recipe here. And of course, you just have to finish off with some delicious mince pies..."
