Louis Walsh: Nick Grimshaw is a bad booking
Louis Walsh has branded new X Factor judge Nick Grimshaw a "groupie".
The Irishman was on the panel of the ITV singing contest for 11 series but chose not to return for the current run. In his place, show creator Simon Cowell chose Radio 1 breakfast show host Nick, 31, but Louis isn't impressed by his replacement.
"It’s a bad booking," he told Gogglebox’s Steph and Dom on their new Channel 4 show. “He’s a nice enough guy but he’s like a groupie, you only ever see him with famous people.”
Nick wasn't the only member of the panel that came under fire from the former Westlife manager. Fellow judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who Louis sat alongside for four series, was also criticised.
"She’s very ambitious, she’s not there for the music," he said.
The pair have taken pops at each other in the press on a number of occasion before, with Louis previously describing the former Girls Aloud singer as "irrelevant". The Geordie then hit back saying the 63-year-old had a strange fixation on her.
"I am beginning to wonder if Louis has some kind of an obsession with me...” she wrote on Twitter in May. “I mean this is every year whether I am or am not a part of the show... and btw.. This is the same man asking me what he should say to contestants on our way to the stage bc (sic) “he doesn’t know”...”
Meanwhile, this year's guest judges have been announced ahead of the judge's houses stage. Cheryl will be joined by Jess Glynne, while Rita Ora will have Meghan Trainor by her side. Nick will pick his final contestants for the live show with the help of Uptown Funk musician Mark Ronson. After months of speculation it was confirmed that One Direction star Louis Tomlinson will join his record boss Simon at his home.
