Katie Derham: 'We're the Strictly underdogs'

Katie Derham knows she and Anton du Beke are the Strictly underdogs, but she's determined not to let her dance partner down.

The news presenter is one of the surprise favourites of the 2015 series of Strictly Come Dancing, and has made the final with partner Anton. She'll battle it out with Kellie Bright, Jay McGuiness and Georgia May Foote on Saturday (19Dec15) in a bid to win this year's glitterball trophy.

"It's just nuts, but brilliant, and I am delighted, I'm flying the flag for women of a certain age," the 45-year-old beamed to Britain's Metro. "Anton is so chuffed to be in the final. I am just trying to keep up so I don't let him down on the night.

"We are very much the underdogs and that's fine - that's a happy place to be."

They've faced stiff competition this year, beating early favourites Peter Andre and Helen George. Anton is notorious for being paired with celebs that generally bow out early, and his yet to win the Strictly crown.

There have been whispers this year about a Strictly fix, with singer Jamelia and professional dancer Ola Jordan adding fuel to the fire. Anton has slammed the rumours, with Katie just as unimpressed.

"I have been surprised because Strictly is the ultimate benign happy friendly family show - and of course it's done very well in the ratings," she said.

"I have been surprised that anyone has found much to complain about. We all have this tendency in the UK to not let anything get too big for its boots. I think that's what's happened in the last week or two."
