Katherine Jenkins to present Songs of Praise TV show
Classical singer Katherine Jenkins is to join the presenting team on British religious TV show Songs Of Praise.
The star joins existing presenters Aled Jones and Pamela Rhodes in hosting the programme, which each week features a Christian hymn service from around the U.K.
Her first episode will be broadcast on 23 July (17) from Hastings, England where in addition to introducing hymns she will meet volunteers from a local church who are helping new mums with baskets of donated items.
She will also perform on the show herself, singing the classic English anthem Jerusalem.
"Having watched Songs Of Praise for as long as I can remember and after the many appearances on the show over the past 12 years, it is wonderful to officially become part of the family," the 37-year-old singer says in a press release.
"I am hugely excited about my new role, about working with my friend Aled again and about meeting and worshipping with new people across the country."
Good Morning Britain sports presenter Sean Fletcher has also joined the programme to report on from around Britain.
Fatima Salaria, the BBC's Commissioning editor, religion and ethics, said in a statement: "Sean is a highly experienced presenter while Katherine brings both broadcasting experience and unique talents. I am confident they will be excellent additions to the current much-loved Songs of Praise presenting team."
The programme has aired on the BBC since 1961, making it the longest running show of its type in the world.
