Johnny Depp: Down with Downton

Johnny Depp is a big fan of Downton Abbey.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor revealed his love of the hit ITV period drama to Pirates co-star Kevin McNally, who played Mr Bryant on the show. Kevin is married to fellow Downton star Phyllis Logan, who was thrilled to hear the Hollywood A-lister watches the show.

"My husband was filming the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film with Johnny and he said, ‘What was it I saw you in? Oh, you were in Downton Abbey. I love that show,'" she told British newspaper The Sun. “His favourite characters are Mr Carson and Daisy.”

The show, created by Julian Fellowes, isn't the first British TV programme that the 52-year-old American has shown his appreciation of. The star is also a big fan of comedy and had a cameo in The Vicar of Dibley and The Fast Show. The actor revealed earlier this year that appearing on the programme created by Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson was one of his top moments.

"It was absolutely one of my proudest achievements,” he told British newspaper The Mirror. “No question. It was one of my favourite things, to have been on the last Fast Show.”

Johnny isn't the only A-lister to fall in love with Downton Abbey. Katy Perry, Courtney Love and Tom Hanks have all admitted to tuning in, while George Clooney went one better and actually managed to land a cameo in the period drama last year. The Oscar winner played his own version of Lord Grantham in the charity special before embracing Lady Cora, played by Elizabeth McGovern.
