Jamelia: Strictly is a ball

Singer Jamelia is following her daughters' advice and enjoying every minute on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 34-year-old star is currently gracing the TV competition with professional dancing partner Tristan MacManus at her side. Although she admits to struggling with some of the routines, Jamelia is looking at the show as an opportunity to have good fun. This is in part reinforced by the support of her little girls, Teja and Tiani.

"I'm not a confident dancer and then I thought, 'Stop pressurising yourself.' I'm Jamaican and so dancing is in the blood," she smiled to Britain's Closer magazine. "I've been told by my daughters to enjoy myself!"

Her daughters have different dads, both of which are supporting the musician every step of the way during Strictly. It's not easy juggling being a single mother with her career, but she insists she's a great multitasker.

Joining Jamelia on the programme are celebrities including Call the Midwife's Helen George, boxer Anthony Ogogo and Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote. This year's (15) series has only just kicked off and live shows will take place on Friday (25Sept15) and Saturday (26Sept15).

Jamelia isn't worried about battling it out against fellow contestants though.

"Everyone is getting on so well - it's early days and the pros have had it's all going to change, but I can't see that happening," she added.

One big perk for those involved in the show is losing weight, with many of the stars toning up. However svelte Jamelia doesn't feel she needs to slim down and isn't depriving herself of treats during her TV stint.

"After having Tiani I slimmed down and was a size 6. I looked awful," she sighed. "I don't believe in restricting yourself. If I want a piece of cake then I will have it. Around 80 per cent of the time I eat healthily. I love food!"
