Gillian Taylforth’s secret heartache
Gillian Taylforth's EastEnders return has been mired with off screen tragedy.
The British actress returned to Albert Square last week, with her character Kathy Beale coming back from the dead after 15 years.
However off set Gillian is having to deal with the heartache of the possibility that her fiancé Dave Fairbairn's prostate cancer has spread.
“Dave is trying to remain as upbeat as possible. He is going into hospital on Thursday for a colonoscopy and is hoping to get the all clear," a family friend told the Mirror.
“However, at the back of his mind, he is concerned the cancer may have spread beyond his prostate."
Last week Gillian and Dave, both 60, and her children Jessica and Harrison were snapped enjoying the sun in Cyprus to celebrate their birthdays.
The cancer apparently didn't overshadow the holiday as Dave continues to remain positive.
"Throughout his cancer battle, Dave has always remained optimistic - and so far that attitude has helped him through one of the toughest ordeals of his life. But it’s a real setback as he had been hoping to be in remission by the end of this year," the source continued.
"Gillian, Dave and the kids had a fantastic time away. It was just the break they needed. It was a time to celebrate both their 60th birthdays and the allow Dave the chance to rest up before coming back to face a potential fight.”
This isn't the first time Gillian's life has been touched by cancer. In 2013 the actress lost her partner, Jessica and Harrison's dad, Geoff Knights to stomach cancer.
Her mother also passed away from the disease.
