George Shelley: 'I'm no diva!'
George Shelley has responded to claims by Union J bandmates he considered himself "bigger than the band".
The 22-year-old singer broke fans' hearts when it was revealed on Thursday (03Feb16) that he had parted ways with his former bandmates - Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett and Jaymi Hensley.
After the revelation, the trio, who were originally called Triple J before George joined them on The X Factor back in 2012 to form Union J, blasted George, saying he hadn't been the same since he increased his profile on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! last year (15).
"He did the jungle, he came off it and his head space was different to ours," Josh told The Sun newspaper. "Using a sporting analogy, he wanted to turn up to the big matches but not turn up to training."
"It's heartbreaking," Jaymi added. "I spoke to him the other day and I said I'm heartbroken over this. He wasn't putting his full effort in. One member is not bigger than the band."
However, a spokesperson for George has denied the allegations, insisting it was a mutual decision that he left to focus on his television career.
"He is now a regular part of the Capital FM Breakfast Show, hosted the Brits Red Carpet Live and recently completed shooting on BBC3's Murder in Successville," his spokesperson told the Daily Mirror. "He is an utterly charming and hard working individual - not a diva in the slightest."
George won a host of new fans during his time in the Australian jungle, which saw him strike up a romance with The Only Way Is Essex star Ferne McCann. Shortly afterwards, when his relationship with Ferne turned into friendship, George revealed his bisexuality in a very honest video announcement.
