Gavin Rossdale and Jennifer Hudson named new coaches for The Voice U.K.
Rocker Gavin Rossdale and singer Jennifer Hudson have been recruited for the coaching panel of upcoming series of The Voice U.K.
The Bush frontman is following in ex-wife Gwen Stefani's shoes by signing on to serve as a coach on the show, just over a year after she performed the same duty on the U.S. version, where she met her new partner, country singer Blake Shelton.
Jennifer, who began her career on singing competition American Idol, replaces British singer Paloma Faith on the line-up.
"I couldn’t be more excited," she said in a statement. "The U.K. has always been so supportive of me since the beginning of my career so I’m really looking forward to sharing my point of view with the contestants."
She has previous judging experience - she helped Kelly Rowland pick contestants in the judges' houses round of The X Factor U.K. in 2011.
The new additions are joined by will.i.am, who has been with the show since it began in 2012, and Sir Tom Jones, who returns after a year's absence.
"I’m looking forward to returning to my big red chair on The Voice U.K.," he said. "I had some great times on the show and can’t wait to again discover and help some brand new talent."
The Welsh crooner was axed by BBC bosses and replaced by Boy George for the 2015 series and he issued a statement on Facebook at the time saying he was "disappointed" by the producers of the show, who told him he was being replaced with "no conversation or consultation of any kind".
He won an apology from BBC bosses over the handling of the situation but unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade at the producers last year (15), telling The Sunday Times Magazine, "I said, 'I don't give a f***k.' I enjoyed it, but if they don't want me any more, they can go f**k themselves.'"
However, the 2017 series will now be broadcast on rival channel ITV, after executives bought the format in a three-series deal.
Kaiser Chiefs star Ricky Wilson, an original judge, had earlier ruled himself out of the line-up.
