Ex-Corrie star set to replace slain MP in Parliament

A former star of Coronation Street is in pole position to take the seat previously held by murdered MP Jo Cox.

The Daily Mail report that Tracy Brabin is the favourite to take the seat won by Cox in the last UK General election.

Brabin, best known for playing Tricia Armstrong in the mid 1990s, was a close friend of Cox and the pair worked together on various campaigns.

The paper reports that Brabin is 'nailed on' to be selected to run for Labour in the by-election in October and with both other major parties declining to run as a mark of respect to Cox, the 55-year-old is virtually guaranteed to win a seat in the House of Commons.

Cox was brutally murdered in the street in the town of Birstall, West Yorkshire in her constituency in June this year.

Brabin has also appeared in both Emmerdale and Eastenders as well as carving out a career as a successful writer for shows such as Shameless and Hollyoaks.
