Emmerdale continues success with second Best Soap win

Emmerdale continued its success by beating EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Coronation Street to be named Best Soap at the TV Choice Awards on Monday night (05Sep16).

The ITV show had some stiff competition but showed that their exciting storylines and multi-dimensional characters are still exciting viewers as it took home the gong at the annual ceremony, held at the Dorchester Hotel.

The award follows Emmerdale taking home the same gong at the British Soap Awards back in May (16).

The show's star Danny Miller also enjoyed a successful evening, after being named Best Soap Actor for his role as Aaron Livesy in the programme.

Following his win, Danny tweeted: "Wow!! Thank you to EVERYONE who voted for me and for @emmerdale #overwhelmed."

Lacey Turner won the Best Soap Actress gong for playing Stacey Slater on EastEnders, following her return to the BBC soap in 2014 after a four-year absence.

She beat Paula Lane, Jennifer Metcalfe and Lucy Pargeter to take home the award, and beamed with delight as she posed with her trophy.

Former X Factor contestant Shayne Ward was recognised for his role as Aidan Connor in Coronation Street. He was named Best Soap Newcomer, and took to Twitter to share his joy. "Thank you so much to everyone that voted.I am truly delighted. My Smile has not left my face.@itvcorrie I (heart emoji) You x."
