EastEnders star Davood Ghadami taking a twirl for Strictly Come Dancing

EastEnders star Davood Ghadami is the latest famous face to sign up for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 35-year-old heartthrob, who plays Kush Kazemi on the BBC soap, is hoping for success on the dancefloor when the TV talent show returns to screens later this year.

Upon the BBC's confirmation of his involvement, Davood said in a statement: "Having the opportunity to take part in this year’s Strictly is such an honour.

"It’s going to be exciting, challenging and terrifying all at once and I am so looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and learning to dance. See you under the Glitterball!"

According to insiders, Strictly bosses are hoping Davood will provide the sex appeal on this year's show, and are likely to be urging him to dress in flesh-flashing ensembles.

"Davood is this year’s heartthrob and bosses are delighted he’s signed up," a source told The Sun newspaper. "Soap stars, particularly from EastEnders, have done really well on the show previously.

"Producers are keen for him to get his kit off and get the audience’s pulses racing a bit."

Davood joins previously confirmed contestant Mollie King, while other names linked to the upcoming series include comedian Brian Conley and former The X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

He's the latest member of the Albert Square regulars to sign up for the programme, following last year's contestant Tameka Empson, who was second to be voted off the show. Kellie Bright was runner-up on the 2015 series of the show while Kara Tointon took home the Glitterball trophy in 2010.

Strictly Come Dancing will premiere later this year.
