Eastenders fans warned by star to expect a 'shock' this Christmas
The festive season is always a dramatic time in Albert Square but the 2016 edition may be a little different.
That's because instead of the usual Christmas Day diet of death and misery in Walford, this year may be a little more upbeat.
That is according to Jamie Borthwick (Jay Brown), who told the Radio Times what viewers can expect.
"It's not how it usually is this Christmas. Expect a bit of a shock," he said.
"It's a mixture of happy and low-key," he added.
Borthwick has just returned to the soap when Pam Coker (Lin Blakley) found the troubled young man sleeping rough as she dropped her dead grandson Paul Coker's (Jonny Labey) old clothes off at a homeless shelter following his brutal murder.
The flower stall holder - who used to be a social worker - managed to persuade the drug addict to return to Albert Square because his best friend Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) is really struggling after the death of his boyfriend Paul and needs him.
