Dermot O'Leary's X Factor return

Dermot O'Leary is returning as the dancing host of The X Factor.

The 42-year-old quit the ITV talent show last year (15) after eight years presenting the series. Caroline Flack and Olly Murs took the reins for the 2015 series but failed to impress viewers with their presenting skills.

Now Dermot has revealed he will once again host the programme when it returns later this year (16).

"I'm very flattered to be asked back to The X Factor," he said in a statement. "There is nothing more exciting than hosting live TV on a Saturday night. The show is naturally very close to my heart, after having hosted it for eight years. I'm really looking forward to it, and excited to be back."

As well as his sense of humour and ability to think on his feet when it came to live television, Dermot became known for his dance routines on the stage.

Show boss Simon Cowell welcomed his return as well, saying: "Dermot's back, hooray! And so is his dancing! Welcome home, Dermot."

Thames TV managing director and interim FremantleMedia UK CEO Richard Holloway added: "Dermot is a much-loved part of The X Factor and one of the best presenters in the business. We're thrilled he's back on board for our new series."

Dermot's comeback had been anticipated since Olly and Caroline both confirmed they would not be back as hosts.

Meanwhile, the judging panel for the next series has yet to be revealed. Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw confirmed he had quit the show after just one year on the panel, while Rita Ora has also hinted she may not be returning.

Simon is expected to return to his role as head judge, while Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's involvement in the show has yet to be revealed.

Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne are among the former judges tipped to make a return for the 2016 panel of the show.
