Denise Welch moves to LA to make it in Hollywood
Denise Welch has "nothing to lose" by looking for work in America.
The former Coronation Street star is currently living in Los Angeles, and is hoping to land a movie or television role Stateside. While countless ex soap stars have failed in their attempts to make a name for themselves in America, Denise is hoping to be the one that breaks the mould.
"I really love it out here and I am going to try to get some auditions and see if I can get some roles," she told The Sun newspaper.
"I have got nothing to lose. I have seen a lot of British actresses come over here and pick up really strong work. In England most people see me as a tart with a heart, but here I start with a fresh slate."
As well as playing Natalie Horrocks in ITV soap Coronation Street, Denise has also starred in programmes such as The Bill, Waterloo Road and Doctors. She also appeared in EastEnders earlier this year (16).
But Denise, 57, isn't limiting her roles to the small screen and is also hoping to be given opportunities in film.
"I feel really relaxed about it and it will great experience to meet with casting agents here," she said. "I am interested in anything from TV to films.
"I feel there are so many different projects that are mad here, that there is an opportunity to prove I can do a diverse role."
In her attempt to settle in in Tinseltown, Denise has turned to former Downton Abbey actresses Joanne Froggatt and Lesley Nicol, who have both found success in America.
As well as their professional tips, Joanne and Lesley have also been giving Denise some advice on acclimatising to life in Hollywood.
