Denise Robertson to receive star-studded send off
Denise Robertson's funeral is to be held at Sunderland Minster on Wednesday (13Apr16).
This Morning hosts past and present, including Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, will join Denise's friends and family to bid farewell to the broadcaster, who is best known as an agony aunt on the ITV morning show.
Ruth Langsford, who hosts the programme on Fridays alongside husband Eamonn Holmes, tweeted on Wednesday morning: "With @EamonnHolmes on our way to Sunderland to pay our final respects and say goodbye to this wonderful lady", alongside a picture of Denise.
Eamonn added on his page: "Heading with @RuthieeL to Sunderland. It's Denise Robertson's funeral today. A sad day but we will also celebrate her life."
Denise passed away last month (31Mar16) after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
A statement from her family at the time of her death read: "It is with the deepest possible sorrow that we announce the passing of a very great lady. Our dearest Denise Robertson lost her short battle with cancer (yesterday) at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. We send our gratitude to the many thousands of people who have sent messages of love, support and prayers during these difficult weeks, these sustained and delighted her immeasurably.
"The world has lost an extraordinary women. We know that her ITV family, the This Morning viewers and the incalculable numbers of people she has helped and causes she has championed during her 83 years, will be grieving with us at this intensely painful time."
Denise had worked on the show since 1988 and This Morning executives are planning a special tribute programme. She briefly had her own agony aunt show Dear Denise in 2000, and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2006 for her services to broadcasting and charity.
She is survived by her husband Bryan Thubron, and her only son Mark Alexander Robertson.
