David Tennant 'sad' to bid farewell to Broadchurch
David Tennant is struggling to come to terms with the end of his hit show Broadchurch.
The 45-year-old actor reprises his role as DI Alec Hardy in the upcoming third and final season of the hit ITV show, alongside Olivia Colman as DS Ellie Miller.
But saying goodbye to the programme, which has been a massive success in the U.K., is tough for David, who remains extremely proud of what he and his castmates have achieved through the programme.
"It is sad to think we will never return to this world and to these characters because I feel so fondly towards them but I will always feel proud to be associated with this show," he told Scotland's Daily Record newspaper. "There is a massive personal legacy having worked on this show. We all feel like we have been doing something very special."
The next season sees Hardy and Miller investigate a new crime on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. It revolves around a local woman being sexually assaulted, and David admits he struggled to do his research when it came to the horrific assault. Writer Chris Chibnall was also advised by sexual assault victims and organisations, and David is hopeful they have managed to achieve a realistic storyline, sensitively delivered.
"We are presenting something that is very difficult, an awful event in someone’s life and you have to present it realistically, accurately and sensitively," he said. "Chris has almost forensically gone about looking at what the support systems are in this country, how they work and the amazing work that they do with victims of sexual assault.
"We were hugely affected by meeting some of the women who meet victims and who help them and care for them and see the processes that do exist in a hugely underfunded set of services. The humanity there and the care of the people who work at Rape Crisis and those organisations has been humbling and something I hope we bear witness to appropriately in the show."
The third series of Broadchurch premieres on ITV on 27 February (17).
