Daniel O'Donnell: I've not got enough rhythm for Kristina Rihanoff

Irish star Daniel O'Donnell doesn't feel good enough for his Strictly Come Dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff.

The 53-year-old singer has been paired with the blonde beauty for the 13th series and the show saw its second round of live performances start on Friday (02Oct15). Kristina has previously boogied alongside the likes of rugby player Ben Cohen, her current boyfriend, and popstar Simon Webbe, and Daniel isn't sure his abilities match up.

"It would have been nice for Kristina to get a young sports star," he smiled to Britain's The Sun newspaper.

“She got me, but she seems happy enough.”

Not everyone thinks Kristina is pleased with the partnership though, as judge Craig Revel Horwood claimed last month (Sept15) she was "gutted" with the outcome.

But Daniel remains positive and he has also defended her relationship with Ben. The couple competed in 2013 when the sportsman was still married, and his relationship with his wife ended that same year.

“None of us can help who you fall in love with," Daniel said of the loved-up pair.

Luckily Daniel's wife Majella McLennan doesn't feel threatened by Kristina and the musician believes they could become close friends as the programme continues.

He also hopes his exposure will help English people hear his music, as his success has predominantly been in his home country. Although he's often pestered by fans in his village Dungloe in Donegal, Daniel doesn't have the same effect on people overseas.

“No fans have turned up at the dance studio yet. I don’t think people who follow what I do would do that," he added.

“I’ve never experienced that thing of ‘We need to see him now because we’ll never get a chance again’, as that chance is always there. I enjoy meeting people as much as they enjoy meeting me.

“I’m just having fun on Strictly but if people watch it and want to find out about my records then that’s great.”
