Hot on the heels of the departure of fan favourite Kylie Platt, it is now being reported that another dramatic exit is planned.

The Sun are reporting that new boss Kate Oates is planning her first big showpiece and they believe a 'huge explosion' is being planned for Weatherfield.

The incident will leave a number of characters in serious danger and the suggestion is one will be killed off.

While Oates was at the helm of Emmerdale she oversaw the helicopter crash that led to Ruby Haswell - played by Alicia Eyo - being killed.

The paper says that Oates has recruited Tony Prescott to direct the spectacular.

Prescott is best known for his work on the live episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

It's not all bad news for fans as over the weekend it was reported that some old faces are coming back.

As the ITV soap moves to six shows a week, bosses have decided to reintroduce some of the more recognisable characters from years gone by, including Toyah Battersby, Brian Packman and Daniel Osbourne.

A source told The Sun: "The cast has to expand to take on more storylines so these three are back.

"They've had good storylines before and will definitely stir up some trouble."

The three returning cast members will all appear on air before the extra show is introduced in autumn 2017.
