Claudia Winkleman: You can't fake TV friendship
Claudia Winkleman insists her friendship with Tess Daly isn't fake.
The two women share the small screen while hosting Strictly Come Dancing, the new season of which is set to begin this Saturday.
While some people may assume they put on a performance for the cameras, Claudia is adamant that she and Tess are just as friendly when filming ends.
"Tess and I get on brilliantly. I've always thought viewers know what's real and what isn't. Fakery and nonsense can be seen from miles off," she told Radio Times.
"When we wrap, all the producers come in. They're all women, apart from one guy called Mark who is very nice (hello Mark), and we all just sit around and burger up. The glamour is saved for when the cameras roll, and that's nothing to do with me."
The pair even hang out after the show has finished, eating McDonald's and Maltesers together.
Claudia has held her role since 2010 and "can't wait" for it to begin again every year. However it does take a toll, with the star revealing she smells of fake tan all the time and often finds sequins in her hair.
But the 43-year-old always makes time for her family, husband Kris Thykier and their three children, Jake, 12, Matilda, nine, and four-year-old Arthur. It was the influence of her own mother, author and journalist mother Eve Pollard, that helped Claudia set her own parenting path.
"My mother is an extraordinary woman. Strong, clever, funny, but very cosy. She believed in good manners, sleeping and eating well," the star added.
"She was a huge influence on me, in work but also as a parent. It's all, 'Be polite, sleep and eat broccoli.' I think my kids know there is a line and that's down to how I was raised. I'm their parent, not their friend."
