Cilla Black died of a stroke after falling over, it has been confirmed.
The 72-year-old star passed away at her Spanish villa in Estepona at the weekend and a coroner's report has now revealed the cause of death. She lost her balance after getting up from sunbathing, causing her to fall and knock her head. She subsequently died of a stroke, though it's said she wouldn't have suffered any pain.
Cilla's sons Robert, Ben and Jack Willis have been given permission from Spanish authorities to fly her body back to the UK for a funeral. The men released a joint statement sharing their feelings.
"We are devastated by the sad loss of our mother, but have been deeply touched by all the kind messages of support from her friends, fans, the public and media," they said.
"We would like to thank everyone, especially the people of Liverpool. The tributes and condolences have really helped us through these difficult times.
"The Spanish authorities have now told us we are able to bring Mum home, which we hope to do as quickly as possible.
"We would also like to thank all those involved for their assistance with this matter. We respectfully request for our continued privacy to grieve."
Details of Cilla's funeral have yet to be confirmed, but will be announced in due course.
The passing of the bubbly singer and TV personality sent a shockwave through the industry, with stars such as Sheridan Smith and Sir Cliff Richard sharing their condolences.
Robert, Ben and Jack's father is Bobby Willis, Cilla's husband for over 30 years until his death in 1999 from lung cancer.
