Chris Evans trying to 'move on' after quitting Top Gear
Chris Evans dedicated his BBC Radio 2 show to "all the Top Gear gang" on Tuesday morning (05Jul16) after sensationally quitting the motoring programme.
The 50-year-old host announced his departure from the show on Twitter on Monday (04Jul16), following disappointing ratings and criticism of his presenting style. As he arrived for his daily show on Radio 2 on Tuesday, Chris stayed silent as he was questioned by waiting reporters about leaving the series.
However, once he took to the airwaves Chris didn't wait to reference his decision, telling his listeners: "Today's show is dedicated to all the Top Gear gang, and today's show is entitled; Breathe In Breathe Out, Move On."
Chris, who had been seen grabbing a pile of newspapers as he entered the Radio 2 building for his show, then proceeded to run through the front pages of the publications. He also commented how surprised he was that his resignation appears to have superseded that of UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who announced his own departure from his party on Tuesday.
"The front page of the Mirror, I've got to go here - bear with me. 'Evans quits Top Gear, my best wasn't good enough' and that's true, that's what I said in a tweet yesterday," Chris said. "The Sun, 'The end for flop Chris - Geario', and The Telegraph, 'Evans' Top Gear journey at an end'. It's all true but of course there was another high profile, much more important I think resignation yesterday, that doesn't make some of the front pages and that's Nigel Farage!"
It has also been reported that Chris' personality clashed with many of the Top Gear production team, as well as his co-presenter, former Friends star Matt LeBlanc.
According to The Sun, BBC bosses aren't planning to replace Chris and are instead going to hand the reins over to Matt to go solo while fronting the series.
"Chris is gone - everyone here is celebrating. It's been a disaster," a source told the publication. "Matt is going to get the big job on his own. There are already active negotiations and he’s almost certain to sign now that he doesn't have to work with Chris."
