Chris Evans' 'ex being pursued for Top Gear'
Chris Evans' former Radio 1 co-star Holly Samos is reportedly being lined up to host Top Gear with him.
The TV-and-radio star was confirmed as the new presenter of the motoring TV show in June (15), following the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, who was sacked after a violent altercation with a producer.
Since then there has been intense speculation about who will join him on screen, as Jeremy's co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May have also left. The latest report suggests Holly, who Chris used to refer to as Holly 'Hot Lips' Stamos, is the frontrunner.
"Chris and Holly have brilliant chemistry and would be great together on Top Gear. Holly is a motoring nut," an insider told British newspaper The Sun.
The two stars have known each other for other 25 years, having first worked together on radio station GLR - now known as BBC London 94.9. That was when Holly, now 44, was at college, and they went on to work together on Virgin Radio as well as the BBC breakfast show. Things also took a romantic turn, with Chris admitting they had enjoyed a flirtation in one of his autobiographies.
Adding to the speculation is the fact that Holly has form as a car enthusiast. She reported on Formula One for Radio 5 Live between 2006 and 2010 and still presents some videos on car racing.
At the moment the rumour hasn't been confirmed, although Chris has said he wants at least one of his co-stars to be a woman. Car enthusiast Jodie Kidd was initially thought to be in the picture, but she ruled herself out in August (15).
“I feel greatly honoured that people think I could possibly be good enough to fill those shoes, especially as a woman," she told Britain's The Telegraph newspaper.
“[But] if I were to accept Top Gear it would be completely all-consuming. I love doing all the different things I am doing in my life at the moment.
“Top Gear is the most brilliant show on this planet but it would just take over your soul. That would be it."
