Cheryl Fernandez-Versini 'quits The X Factor'
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has quit The X Factor to focus on her music career.
The 32-year-old singer confirmed the news in a statement released on Tuesday (05Apr16).
"I have had such an amazing experience being a judge on The X Factor," she said. "I have learnt so much and enjoyed nurturing talent but I’ve missed making music and am excited to be recording again. I want to thank everybody I have worked with along the way, especially Simon who I love to bits. I hope the show continues to produce stars and I wish them all the best."
Cheryl is said to have told show boss Simon Cowell the news last week (ends03Apr16) at dinner when she personally handed him her resignation.
In his own statement, Simon hinted that his time working with Cheryl has not ended, despite their time on The X Factor coming to a close.
"Cheryl and myself spoke about this," Simon said. "I totally understand her commitment to making more records. She has been amazing on the show and in the near future we will be working on other things together."
Cheryl first joined the panel of the ITV show in 2008 before leaving in 2011 to act as a judge on the U.S. version of the show. However, that ended badly when Simon fired her after she failed to win over viewers. After a few years of feuding, Simon and Cheryl were back on good terms and the former Girls Aloud singer rejoined The X Factor on the panel in 2014 and also judged last year's series (15).
As well as her determination to make her next album a success, her fledgling romance with One Direction star Liam Payne is also a priority for Cheryl, according to The Sun.
The line-up for the next series of the show has been hotly debated over the past few weeks, with rumours that Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne could both return to the panel.
