Astronaut Tim Peake top of the wanted list for Strictly

Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reportedly desperate to land Tim Peake for this year's show.

The British astronaut returned to Earth in June (16) after six months on the International Space Station. And according to The Sun newspapers, producers of Strictly are keen to convince the space man to sign up to compete on the upcoming series of the TV talent show.

However, considering the fact the 44-year-old is currently undergoing treatment to help him regain muscle strength, it seems an unlikely move.

"He was obviously huge this year and would be a dream signing," a source said. "But considering the man is on something like a two-year rehab to get walking properly, we might have to wait until next year to see him do the paso doble."

Returning to earth after acclimatising to the zero gravity nature of space, astronauts are warned to steer clear of certain activities - with dancing being one of them - as they are at a more increased risk of suffering injuries and breaks due to having weakened bones.

The full line-up of this year's show has yet to be announced, but politician Ed Balls was announced as the first famous face to be strutting his stuff on the dance floor on Monday (08Aug16).

"I'd like to say I'm just really excited about learning to dance on TV, but the truth is I'm also scared to death," he told Chris Evans on his Radio 2 show. "Making a speech in Parliament seems a piece of cake compared to this, but hopefully I can stick around for a couple of weeks, and have a lot of fun in the process."

Ed also told Chris he is thrilled to be involved in the show in what will be head judge Len Goodman's last year.

"Strictly is a firm favourite in our living room, and it feels like a dream to be going on myself, especially for Len's (Goodman) last series," he said. "I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into a nightmare too quickly!"
