Alesha Dixon's close shave with BGT contestant

Simon Cowell accused fellow Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon of nearly killing a contestant on Sunday night's live show (22May16).

The 37-year-old almost shot American showman Ben Blaque when she was asked to assist in his crossbow roulette routine.

Ben recruited the former Mis-Teeq singer star to assist him during a routine which involved pulling four out of five levers which would fire a crossbow at the showman as he was strapped spreadeagled to a roulette style board.

Alesha had assumed the role of his glamorous assistant and was responsible for pulling a lever which shot razor-sharp arrows in his direction.

But on two occasions, the judge accidentally pulled two levers firing an extra arrow from one of the weapons, with one narrowly missing Ben's chest.

The audience gasped as the stunt took a turn for the worse – with viewers watching in horror as they realised only one arrow was meant to be discharged at a time.

Seemingly oblivious to the fact that she'd messed up, Alesha joked: "Do you know what, this is fun I’m not going to lie."

However, Ben seemed slightly more worried and told the star: "Believe me when I say I’m much more nervous than you are."

Alesha clapped in delight as she pulled the final lever and a grateful Ben said: "Thank you for not killing me."

Fortunately, the malfunction seemed to work in Ben's favour as he gained a roaring round of applause from the judging panel.

Head judge Simon said it made for more compelling viewing, telling the audience: "I'm still looking at Alesha because you nearly killed him. The fact it went wrong actually made it better, Alesha, by being an idiot, made it better," he deadpanned.

Alesha disputed the fact that she accidentally pulled two levers simultaneously asking her fellow judges: “How did I pull two at once?” prompting cheeky David Walliams to tease: “You’ve done it before.”

Despite his ordeal, Ben failed to make it through to the BGT final. He was beaten by 100 Voices of Gospel and mother/son singers Mel and Jamie.
