An art installation in New York was offering free tattoos, with one rather large catch.

The deal was you had to put your arm through a hole in a fence and a palm-sized tattoo would be inked onto your forearm by well-known tattoo artist Scott Campbell.

The artist didn't get to see the recipient and the person would only see what they would have to live with for the rest of their lives when the job was done.

Campbell, who has tattooed many celebrities, including Penelope Cruz and Robert Downey Jnr, ran the show called "Whole Glory" over four days in New York last weekend.

In total about 25 people, who applied and got their chance via a lottery, got a brand new piece of body art and while we don't know how they feel about the tattoos, the pictures of them Campbell posted on Instagram shows that they at least got a high quality piece of work.
