One of the biggest names in NASCAR suffered a terrifying moment during a race at the famous Talladega Superspeedway yesterday.

Incredible video shows Dale Earnhardt Junior experiencing the horror of the steering wheel coming off in his hand during the race.

The two time Daytona 500 winner showed just how cool he is under pressure by choosing to steer with just the column before calmly re-attaching the wheel.

Luckily for the driver known across the US as just 'Junior', the race was under caution at the time of the incident, so the cars were not speeding around at their normal speed of 200mph.

The day didn't really improve after this incident for Junior as he went on to crash twice before finishing 40th.
