Video: Driver walks away from very scary high-speed crash
Helio Castroneves lost control of his car in practice for the Indy 500 yesterday, resulting in a terrifying flip and crash which he was somehow able to walk away from.
Driving his Team Penske Chevrolet at 226mph, the three-time winner of the race lost control of the car coming off the bend and the car started to travel backwards.
Then it got really scary as the air got under the car, sending it flying and flipping it over so that it would land back on the track upside-down.
“I didn’t expect to go flipping backward,” Castroneves said. “I was very surprised by that.
After landing, the driver freed himself from the wreckage and even though he was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, he was released and he will be in the historic race at the weekend.
