Teenager smashes Spanish PM a box during election event
A 17-year-old punched Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on Wednesday as the politician was attending an election event in his home region of Galicia.
The young man connected fully with Rajoy’s head, knocking his glasses off.
The teen was immediately arrested by police, according to the El Mundo newspaper.
The reason for the assault was not immediately clear, although local reports said the teenager involved was linked to radical independent groups.
Government minister Ana Pastor, who was with Mr Rajoy when the attack happened this afternoon, said: 'I don't have words to express the indignation I feel.'
The political leader tweeted while he was travelling to La Coruna: 'I am fine, on my way to a rally in La Coruna. Let's carry on constructing a serious Spain.'
General elections will be held in Spain on Sunday.
