Teacher keeps job after parents call her Instagram pictures 'pornographic'
A teacher's pictures of herself posted to Instagram almost got her fired after parents at her school deemed them to be 'pornographic'.
Mindi Jensen, is a teacher at North Sanpete Middle School in Utah and she also is a model and body building enthusiast.
She posted pictures of herself on Instagram, under another name, in various body building poses but when the parent of one of her pupils found the page, they complained to the school, labelling the harmless pictures as 'pornographic'.
The school authorities called her in and gave her three options; set the images to private, take them down or be fired.
Jensen protested as the mother of four said she used body building to battle depression and that she liked inspring others to follow a healthier lifestyle.
One week eeeeekkkk i'm so excited. This is just my start. Someday I'll use these pictures as my "before" picture. I really am proud of myself, although I dreamt and wished I never thought I could do it. 'I get comments and messages that it's inspirational to them, and that these women like my story, and they're following my story, and if I put it to private then it's not going to reach these people that might need and understand me,' she told a local news channel.
'Why are my rights being taken away and not the child’s right? It's between the parent and the child.
'Put restrictions on your children. If you are not comfortable with seeing me in my fitness uniform on stage posing, then take that away from your kid. Don’t take it away from me.'
At a meeting this week the school eventually backed down and now Jensen is no longer in danger of losing her job.
The authorities have apologised and have instead decided to work with parents to get them to better monitor their children's internet activities.
