And the first thing Chewie wants to do is visit the Guinness brewery and enjoy a pint!
Actor Peter Mayhew laughs when asked if Chewie might enjoy a pint.
“He has his little pint every now and again,” he chuckles.
The towering English-born star – who stands at 7ft2in – can’t wait to visit the Guinness Storehouse.
“I almost grew up on Guinness,” reveals the 71-year-old. “It was one of my favourites growing up when I was a youngster, so it will be nice to see its home.”
This will be Peter’s first trip to the Republic of Ireland, although he has visited the North before.
The actor, who has taken part in four of the six Star Wars films so far, will be in Ireland next weekend alongside co-star Kenny Baker, who plays R2D2, for Invasion Dublin.
It is Ireland’s largest celebration of all things Star Wars and will take place from Friday to Sunday at the National Show Centre in Swords, Dublin.
Now in its fifth year, it features replica sets and props from across the Star Wars universe, costumed characters from Emerald Garrison and a full stage schedule, featuring Q&A sessions, competitions and much more.
Peter will whet the appetite of Star Wars fans by discussing the latest film, The Force Awakens, which will be unveiled to the public in December.
“Let me put it this way, if you enjoyed Star Wars, you’re going to love this,” he raves.
“I have seen the completed movie. I love it, I think it’s great.”
And as for the difference between director JJ Abrams and George Lucas, he explains: “George is more of a technician rather than an actor’s actor. JJ will do his thing artistically, where as George will do it mechanically.”
