Somebody in the UK is drawing penises on potholes to raise awareness
An artist calling himself 'Wanksy' is raising awareness of the dangers of potholes in his area by drawing penises on them.
The anonymous activist says his controversial method is gaining him fans, and it's also incredibly effective.
He says his pothole targets routinely get filled in by the council within 48 hours of tagging.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he said the local roads are awful and once he's finished in his area of the city he'll move on.
“The roads of Manchester are in an appalling state, especially around Bury. I have cyclist friends who have been hospitalised.
“They damage vehicles. Sometimes it’s hard to know which pothole caused the damage because there are so many. When I’ve finished in Ramsbottom, I’ll move on to the rest of Manchester.”
He added: “I wanted to attract attention to the pothole and make it memorable. Nothing seemed to do this better than a giant comedy phallus. It’s also speedy, I don’t want to be in the road for a long time.
"It seems to have become my signature. I just want to make people smile and draw attention to the problem. It seems to be working, judging from the Facebook fan page."
His Facebook page has gotten over 13,000 'likes' and social media users seem to think he's doing a great job.
He said a pothole in his area had been there for over eight months when he decided to spray-paint a penis over it. Within 48 hours the hole was filled.
One fan on Facebook wrote: “Let’s make the council realise we won’t put up with the ridiculous condition of our roads.”
