'Shag a Ginger' copycat night emerges as original changes its name

A ‘Shag a Ginger’ copycat night called 'Shift a Ginger' has been launched in Galway.

The event, which boasts €3 drinks is to take place in Karma nightclub in Galway City.

The 'Shift a Ginger' Facebook page states:

Ahhh, everyone loves a ginger really, and its rumoured that we all carry the ginger gene, so why not celebrate your inner ginger by trying to get the shift off one this Monday night.

However organisers of the original “tongue in cheek” club event called ‘Shag a Ginger’ night have been forced to change the event’s name following a national outcry.

The event, which offered free entry for red-haired people as well as free condoms, managed to outrage a group of parents and the local parish priest.

The event, which was seen by many as a bit of fun, has since been renamed ‘Kiss me, I’m Ginger’.

In a statement, Pulse Nightclub in Leterkenny, Co Donegal said:

“Given recent controversy surrounding a promotional poster advertising the event, the management have removed it and wish to make it clear it was not their intention to cause insult or offence to anyone.

“The promotion of such events on student nights are commonplace throughout the county and have occurred in the past without knowingly causing offence.”
