One Direction fans are known for their loyalty to the band on social media.

Now they will be able to prove their dedication as the four-piece launch a global Twitter contest to find the 10 countries with the most committed followers.

For one day only, fans in 140 countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe will go head-to-head using designated hashtags to see which nation can send the most tweets, with eager followers able to monitor the results on a live leaderboard.

The 24-hour competition will begin at midnight GMT on Saturday November 14 and, in a world first, Twitter will design special emojis for the 10 winning countries consisting of the One Direction logo and their national flag.

To coincide with the launch of the quartet's new album Made In The A.M. on November 13, six exclusive emojis of the boys will also be released, featuring Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and their album.

Fans can post the hashtags #1D, #MadeinTheAM, #1DLouis, #1DHarry, #1DNiall, #1Liam and the corresponding emojis will automatically appear after their tweet.

Made In The A.M. is the band's fifth album and their first without member Zayn Malik. They will go on hiatus from March 2016.
