Offaly man's Snapchat story about his 22km walk home goes viral
A series of Snapchat videos depicting a young man’s perilous journey from Shinrone to Rath, Co Offally after a wild night out is making waves online.
Joe Troy’s decided to walk the 22km journey after he failed to secure a lift home.
He reckoned that he could complete this feat in four and a half hours before sunrise and was determined to give it his best shot.
“With absolutely no cause or charity on board, nothing registered… only I cannot get a lift home - we’ll see what we’ll do with it,” he says.
During the videos, Joe keeps his followers entertained by attempting to run as fast as he can and by belting out the tunes throughout.
He is then seen in a car with devoted mammy as she drives him the rest of the way home.
His conversation with his friends during the journey is as follows:
“I was doing a GAA preview night in Brian Whelhan’s bar in Birr for the county final and went from there to Shinrone to the lads 21st.
“I had no intention of going to the house party because I’m too long in the tooth for it and was to play golf yesterday morning.
“I thought I had a lift home with one of my friends but they hadn’t room so I rang a taxi to collect me and told him I’d start walking to go and meet him.
“He was delayed for an hour and it was dark so used the phone to entertain myself! Ended in the mother collecting me.
“After she got home from work she collected the sister who works in a local nightclub and she got all the snapchats then and went for me then.”
