Man who “bit rat’s head off in viral video” appears in court

A man has appeared in court in Queensland, Australia, charged with biting a rat’s head off.

24-year-old Matthew Maloney, aka Mad Matt, was charged by RSPCA investigators after posting a video online in January, which appears to show him chomp down on a living rodent.

The viral video shows Maloney storm into a room, get hit by a fluorescent tube, allegedly bite a rat's head off and wash it down with three shots of vodka, get punched in the face, and have a chair broken over his back.

Maloney took to Facebook to defend his actions, writing:

"That rat in the video was a feeder rat and was always going to die. I fed the body to my snake after the video and it wasnt wasted."

"I killed that rat 10 times quicker then the snake could of. I'm sure 90% of you have rat poison and rat traps in your homes right now. So stop acting like a bunch of sissies and accept the food chain."

"All your comments are cracking me up and not one person out there will be able to say anything that will make me feel bad or make me regret what i did."
