A man from North Carolina was arrested this week after failing to return a movie he rented 14 years ago.

James Meyers, of Concord, was pulled over by police who issued a warrant for his arrest from 2002.

Meyers, who was driving his daughter to school at the time, was pulled over by the police and initially assumed it was a joke.

According to Meyer: “The officer said, ‘I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie “Freddy Got Fingered” and never returned it”.

Officers agreed to let the man drive his daughter to school on the condition that he later turn himself in.

Meyers assumed he would be able to straighten things out in the police station but was shocked to find a police officer place him in handcuffs and escorted him to the magistrates office.

Meyers said he only vaguely remembers renting the 2001 movie starring Tom Green, who has Tweeted about the arrest.

The family-owned video store where Meyers rented the cassette closed years ago.

A court date has been set for Meyers for the 27th of April, who said he can only hope that the case in dismissed.
