Leicester City fan who staked £20 (€25) on his beloved Foxes winning the league has cashed out for nearly £30,000 (€37,467).

Jon Pryke could have pocketed £100,000 (€129,000) after staking the money at 5000/1 odds at the start of the season.

But he lost his nerve and cashed out for £29,000 - and said he feels his team's luck might be running out.

The 59-year-old said: "Teams have worked out how to play against us and the smaller teams will just start parking the bus.

"I'd actually have preferred our run-in to be against the bigger teams as we know how to beat them.

"It's been a crazy season, I'd be silly not to take my money and run."

He said he was going to buy a bungalow with the winnings - but will now scale down his celebrations and order more Chinese when his team travel to Vicarage Road to play Watford on Saturday.

Mr Pryke said: "I've also backed Leicester to finish in the top four at 400/1, so I can enjoy the rest of season knowing I've got my winnings early.

"£29,000 is a huge amount of money and I'd be silly ignore it. Not bad from £20."

Ladbrokes said 47 optimistic punters backed Leicester at 5,000/1 to win the league at the start of the season, with Mr Pryke being the fourth to cash out.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: "Jon's gut must be telling him Leicester's luck is about to run out so we don't blame him for cashing in his bet at all.

"£29k from £20 is an incredibly impressive return regardless and we take our hat off to him for having the vision to back his side at 5000/1 at the start of the season."
