Italian hotels offering free holidays to those who conceive there
Hotels in Italy are offering free holidays to those who conceive during their time of stay.
Ten establishments in Assisi are hoping to increase their country's birth rate by offering a free vacation or a refund to those who manage to make a baby during their stay at their accommodation as part of a Fertility Room campaign.
In order for couples to win the free trip or receive their money back, they will have to provide the hotel with a birth certificate of their child to prove the date of conception.
According to the local website It, organisers of the campaign said: "Giving birth to a child is an act of deep love, which should be encouraged despite the multitude of difficulties in life".
Eugenio Guarducci - a local tourism councillor - is said to have started the idea in the hope of reversing Italy's low fertility rate - which so far stands at eight babies born for every 1,000 residents, according to EU figures in 2015.
