Simon Cowell could barely contain his delight as Dubliner Janet Grogan returned to X Factor two years after the pop music mogul broke her heart.

Grogan made it through to the Six Chair Challenge phase of the ITV show two years ago, only to be booted off at the last and denied a chance to realise her dream of becoming a pop star.

The 28-year-old admitted she nearly gave up on making it big in the music industry, but a tweet from Cowell confirming he had made a mistake to drop Janet from the show encouraged her to come back for more.

“Oh my god, Janet,” gushed Cowell as she walked into the room for her audition at Croke Park. "I always hoped you would come back for another audition."

She stormed into the next round after an outstanding audition that saw her get four thumbs up from a panel of judges that included Louis Walsh and it is no surprise when you watch this audition.

A second Irish act caught the eye of the judges, with Niall Sexton making it through to the next round with his version of Sara Bareilles’ Gravity.
