Irish men 'ranked as world's ugliest' but women close to topping charts
Irish women have ranked as some of the world's most beautiful females in a dating site report, though the news isn't quite as good for the country's male population.
Women from around Ireland find themselves ranked in the top 10 in a survey of the world's most beautiful females.
A survey from elite online dating site BeautifulPeople.com sees Irish women place eighth in the world, edging out the female populations of Canada and Italy.
The dating site has an entrance barrier, which only allows certain applicants through to use the service. Just under 30% of Irish women who submitted a profile to the site in 2016 were accepted - moving up from 2015's 25% rate.
However, in the 21-nation survey, Irish men ranked joint-bottom along with male applicants from the United Kingdom and Poland.
Males from the Emerald Isle recorded just a 9% acceptance rate on the site.
Greg Hodge, managing director of the dating website, gave insight on the trends to the Irish Daily Mirror:
"Amazingly, Irish women continue to move up the beauty rankings and Ireland is now the eighth most beautiful country worldwide for women.
"Unfortunately, however, Irish men are yet again pulling their country down overall. Ireland shares the dubious honour, alongside the UK and Poland, of having the least-attractive male inhabitants."
Hodge gave some tips to the Irish men attempting to land a 'coveted' profile spot on BeautifulPeople.com.
"A selfie shot at the pub, pint in hand, does not go down well with women. Men are just not selling themselves, they are selling a lifestyle. A polished image showing an interesting lifestyle would greatly improve their acceptance rate.
"Lifestyle and money strongly factor into women's perception of beauty. If Irish men are lacking aesthetically, they should promote an image that exudes money and a jet-set lifestyle. Women are known to forgive a rough appearance, if accompanied with money and security."
The message to Irish men is clear: Don't be yourself.
The survey suggests that Dublin, the country's most populous county, houses the most attractive members of Ireland's inhabitants. Cork, Galway, Belfast and Limerick are next on the county-by-county rankings of how many applicants get through the controversial site's screening process.
