A homeless man has had his life changed after he won $500,000 (€457,000) on a scracth card in the US.

ITV have the story of Michael Engfors, who has been homeless for six years after a divorce and a failed business left him down on his luck.

However, that luck turned around last week when a $10 scratch card netted him an incredible amount of cash, a windfall that will surely change his life.

Engfors had been staying at the Aspen Homeless Shelter in Colorado and a worker there told ITV that the change in fortune couldn't have happened to a more deserving man.

"It couldn't have happened to a better person.," said Jeremy Kowalis.

"Michael has seen a bottom that has pushed him right to the edge, but he never gave up.

"He knew that if he kept pushing on, eventually his luck would change."
