A dog in Alabama left its house for a walk before accidentally getting involved in a nearby half marathon, where it performed better than almost all the humans.

According to RunningMagazine, Ludivine, a two-year-old bloodhound, stumbled across the The Elkmont Half-Marathon (Trackless Train Trek) and decided to join in.

The remarkable pooch, without its owner, ran the entire 21km course in just over 90 minutes, finishing a very creditable seventh.

The organisers posted details of the dog's performance on their Facebook page and Ludivine's owner April Hamlin only became aware of her dog's atheltic success when friends started to send her pictures of her at the finish line.
