VIDEO: 10-month-old baby floats out to sea on inflatable toy
A 10-month-old baby was left to float out to sea after her parents reportedly forgot they had left her on an inflatable device.
Melda Ilgın floated over a kilometre out into open water towards the Greek island of Lesbos, before she was rescued by the Turkish Coastguard.
Beachgoers tried and failed to rescue the stranded tot before contacting the local coastguard.
Melda was reunited with her family at Çanakkale in the northwest of Turkey.
BGN news reports that: "The Ilgın family went to the public beach in the town of Küçükkuyu on Friday, where they placed young Melda on a flotation device and left her in the water nearby.
"However, between strong northern winds and the family’s lack of attention, the young girl quickly began floating off into the open sea in the direction of the Greek island of Lesbos."
