Ava DuVernay to direct Star Wars?

J.J. Abrams wants Ava DuVernay to direct a 'Star Wars' film.

The 49-year-old screenwriter has produced and directed the past four films in the sci-fi franchise but is keen to hand the ropes over to the brunette beauty, 43, because he thinks at least one of the blockbusters should be led by a woman.

Asked which female writer or director he would choose to tackle the franchise, he told 'Nerdist': "The knee-jerk reaction, if I had to, is Ava DuVernay, who I think would just kill it. She is as much a fan of genre movies, and hearing her talk about not just 'Star Wars,' but hearing her talk about those kinds of films is evidence that she would just kill it.

"When you look at her work in 'Selma,' which was as well-told and as sophisticated and humane a film as I think has come out in the last decade, if she can do that story that well, there's no question she would kill this movie."

And it seems DuVernay may also be up for the project as she took to her Twitter account to express her agreement.

Alongside a link to the podcast, she wrote: "The force is strong with this one."

However, it will only be possible if the movie fits into her schedule as the hot-in-demand director was forced to turn down the forthcoming movie 'Black Panther' recently.
